ETFO Central Bargaining: Member Surveying Process

Throughout November, ETFO will be obtaining member input about 2019 central bargaining issues in a variety of ways, including: an online all-member survey, a random sample telephone survey of members, and face-to-face focus groups. ETFO has contracted a research firm, Strategic Communications (Stratcom) to assist with the surveying process. Surveying will take place from November 12, 2018 until November 21, 2018.

It’s Elementary: 20th Anniversary Edition

Is EQAO Failing Our Children?

Many educators have reservations about the wide-scale use of standardized tests, like EQAO, as an effective assessment tool. But the government mandates their use across Ontario in grades 3, 6, and 9 to test all children’s literacy and numeracy.

Elementary teachers believe that classroom-based assessment by teachers, based on teachers’ professional judgement, is the best source of information about student learning. In 2014, ETFO negotiated language in teacher/occasional teacher collective agreements regarding the use of teacher professional judgement around the use of evaluation tools.
